More on the Hairston Family.

On April 4, 2024, I found out more information on my distant paternal cousins found in Hairston family. They originated from North Carolina. First, Victoria Casey Hairston (1911-2002) was my 2nd cousin, and we share the same ancestor as my 4th great grandparents of George Perkins I (b. 1815) and Esther Perkins (b. 1816). George and Esther Perkins were Victoria Casey Hairston's 2nd great-grandparents. Victoria married Samuel Hairston Sr. (1909-1976) on February 17, 1934, in Danville, Virginia. The couple had seven children (who are my 3rd cousins) who are: Lorine Hairston (1931-1996), Naomi Hairston Abbott (1935-2023), Reverend Gloria Alice Hairston Purcell (1937-2023), Samuel L. Hairston Junior (b. 1939), Nancy Hairston (b. 1942), Eula Hairston Martin (b. 1945), and Brenda Hairston Williams. Lorine Hairston married Frank McAllister Williams Jr. (1930-1983), and their children are Karen Renee Williams (1960-1994), Frank McAllister Williams III (1963-2006), Eric Williams, and Darlene Williams. Naomi Hairston Abbott married Ananias Charlie Abbott (1937-2007), and their child is my 4th cousin Rita Yvette Abbott (b. 1966. Her son is Khama A. Abbott).

Noami Hairston was the Class of 1954 graduate of Douglas High School in Eden, North Carolina. She was selected as class queen during her tenure at cosmetology school. Noami worked at the BB&T Bank and Trust, and she was a lifelong member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Gloria Alice Hairston Purcell married William Cleo Purcell (b. 1921) on January 30, 1970, at Rufin, Rockingham, North Carolina. Their children are my 4th cousins who are Alice Rohenna Purcell (1970-2017), Victoria Purcell Coan, and Felicia Purcell Fashina (her children are Joshua Fashina and Jasmine Fashina). Gloria Purcell graduated from Douglass High School in May of 1955. She was an orator and singer plus musician. She loved to write, studied history, and learned about the arts at a young age. Gloria Purcell feed the homeless, prayed for the imprisoned, volunteered at the local Food Bank, and was a member of the Rockingham Eden Ministerial Alliance. Gloria Purcell has five grandchildren, and their names are: William Purcell (of Eden, North Carolina), Ikisha Gore (of Greensboro, North Carolina) Whitney Gore (of Charlotte North Carolina), Jasmine Fashina (of Atlanta, Georgia), Joshua Fashina (of Atlanta, Georgia). She has three great grandchildren whose names are Marquez Gore, Mila Purcell, and Rohen Scudder. My 3rd cousin Samuel L. Hairston Junior (b. 1939) married Dixie Rae Artis (b. 1943) on December 23, 1962, at Spray, Rockingham, North Carolina. Their children are Timothy LaMonte Hairston (b. 1963), Juan Latoria Hairston (1963-2019), Samuel Lashawn Hairston Jr. (b. 1964), and Nicole Rochell Hairston Brown (b. 1970). Nicole Brown was married to Eric Antonio Brown (1967-2021), and their child is Adam Brown. Samuel Lashawn Hairston J. married Ellen Teresa Alexander (b. 1963), and their children are Aliya Lashawn Hairston (b. 1998) and Nicholas Allen Hairston (b. 2002). Timothy LaMonte Hairston is married to Karen Hairston. My 3rd cousin Eula Hairston Martin (b. 1945) married Paul Emerson Martin Jr. (b. 1939) on February 17, 1973, at Eden, Rockingham, North Carolina.

Recently, I found a mystery to be solved. Back in 2021, I knew that a person from Ancestry.com named Asknight_1 was related to me. From almost three years of research, I found out that Asknight_1 is my 5th cousin paternal Adrienne Suezetta Knight (b. 1988), daughter of Acquanetta Anthony Knight (b. 1957) and the late Richard Eugene Knight (1948-2022). Adrienne Knight and I share the same common ancestor of George and Esther Perkins. Adrienne's sister is Alison Knight, and her brothers are Damon E. Knight (b. 1969) and Tariq Reyhan Knight (b. 1975). Her brothers' parents are Richard Eugene Knight and Corliss A. Josenberger. My 4th cousin Acquanetta Anthony Knight lives in Birmingham, Alabama. Her parents are William Astor Banks Anthony (1922-1972) and Delores Novella Artis (1931-2002). Her brother was William Dwight Anthony (1948-2011). Dolores Novella Artis's parents were George Artis (1891-1935) and Mary Fannie Artis (1895-1958). Mary Fannie Artis's parents were Sam Casey (1863-1938) and Sophronia Perkins (1870-1926). Sophronia Perkins's parents were George Perkins II (1847-1932) and Fannie Lou Blackstock (1848-1949). George Perkins II's parents were my 4th great grandparents of George and Esther Perkins.
